Signature and the writing around it
A signature is a practiced mark. The lines above it are the writing. They are allowed to disagree.
Why they differ
People practice a signature until it becomes one gesture. Ordinary notes keep the letters they were taught, plus whatever speed the moment added. A difference between the two is practice. It is not a second personality, and it is not evidence that the letter is forged.
What to use
For the test, use a few lines of ordinary writing, not the signature. Use this box only to measure a mark you choose to draw. An illegible signature is a signing habit. It is not secrecy, and it is not an identity check.
Questions
- Why does my signature look different from my notes?
- Because you have repeated the signature more than any one sentence. Repetition changes a mark. It does not reveal a hidden trait.
- Can I take the test from a signature?
- No. Pick the shapes from ordinary writing. A signature is a poor sample of those shapes.
- Does an illegible signature mean secrecy?
- No. Many practiced signatures stop being readable. That is the habit of signing, not a motive.
- What should I measure instead?
- A few lines of ordinary writing for the test. This box, if you want the width and lean of a mark you draw on purpose.
